The Thursday's the new Friday jazz series returns to Roland Wines this week with an outstanding evening of music featuring the Cook/Corner/Johnson OnSemble, with my estimable colleagues Nic Johnson on guitar and Colin Corner on bass. Nic has graced our series many times in the past, but this is the first time Colin will be brought into the fold and exceedingly glad we are for it. Colin is an incredibly accomplished bassist in the symphonic realm, currently a charter member of the Oregon Symphony's bass section among others, yet his love for and prowess in the improvisatory streams of jazz is equally noteworthy. In addition, Nic and Colin are accomplished composers, we'll be playing some of their original compositions, as well as from such masters of the form as Monk, Ornette, Scofield, Shorter, and others. As the chill of autumn wends its way in, the interior of the winery will welcome all with warmth, scents of the season, and delectable libation and fare, and cordial company as well.
